CHALLENGING THE BIG OCEAN
内陸都市に“海”という挑戦のメタファーを持ち込み、協働とテクノロジーの力で未来へ漕ぎ出す二匹のサルの物語。
中国・貴陽市の歩行者空間に設置された本作は、海に面さない都市に「挑戦」という象徴を持ち込んだパブリックアートです。
二匹の貴州アカゲザルがボートを漕ぎ出す姿は、未知の海への航海を思わせます。海は挑戦の象徴、ボートとパドルはテクノロジーの象徴、そして二匹の協働は共生の象徴として描かれています。
芝生の丘を海に見立て、未来へ漕ぎ出す彼らの姿は、都市の発展と多様な文化が共に進む姿を重ねています。
親しみやすい造形と鮮やかな色彩が街ゆく人々の目を引き、挑戦・協働・再生という普遍的な物語を穏やかに語りかける、都市の象徴的なランドマークです。
Bringing the metaphor of “the sea” — a symbol of challenge — into an inland city, this artwork tells the story of two monkeys rowing toward the future, powered by collaboration and technology.
Installed in the pedestrian zone of Guiyang, this public artwork introduces the idea of “challenge” to a city without an ocean. The two Guizhou macaques paddling their boat evoke a voyage into the unknown. The sea represents challenge; the boat and paddles symbolize technology; and the two monkeys working together embody coexistence.
By transforming a grassy hill into an imagined sea, their act of rowing forward mirrors the city’s growth and the harmony of its diverse cultures. With approachable forms and vibrant colors, the piece captures the gaze of passersby, gently conveying a universal narrative of challenge, cooperation, and renewal — a landmark that celebrates the spirit of the city.
