The sculpture commemorating the 150th anniversary of Date City in Hokkaido.
In order to live a creative life, having an “Incentive” is essential. The nine golden bananas shimmer and gradually ripen over time.
This artwork is a meticulously crafted bronze sculpture of a black-dyed banana, finished with a layer of gold leaf. Over time, as the years pass, the gold leaf gradually peels off, revealing sugar spots and the emergence of patina, symbolizing the sculpture’s process of weathering and decay, akin to the ripening of a banana.
The intention behind this artwork is to invite people to enjoy the ever-changing nature of this piece, mirroring the maturation of the town itself.
